Has anybody had any luck getting Mpxplay to work with an AC'97 sound card? I want to build a computer sound system for my car using a Via Mini-ITX motherboard running FreeDOS. I don't want to use Windows or Linux because I want something that isn't going to freak out if it just loses power. The reason for the Mini-ITX motherboard is because nearly all of the Mini-ITX cases come with a DC-DC SMPS that runs on 12 volts. I don't want to mess with old 486 or Pentium systems because I want to be able to use a large hard drive, but keep everything as compact as possible. I also don't want to have to use a power invertor. So, the Via Mini-ITX system seems to be the most logical choice.

Lot´s of Via VT... Chipsets run with MS-DOS drivers like this:
C:DOSVIAVIAUDIO.COM
C:DOSVIAVIAFMTSR.COM
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 P330
So it works with mpxplay.
But I don´t know if Free Dos works with those VIA drivers. Just try it.
If you don´t find those drivers mail me:

If you look for a small (Baby-AT) Pentium I Board with support for disks up to 128 GB look for Shuttle HOT 591P (e.g. at Ebay).
I´ve tested a Seagate 120 GB harddisk and it works fine. But I recommend to use a UDMA Dos driver to get speed on the disk
