Construction on the second system was similar to the first. The main difference was the installation, since this car's interior layout is different.
Up Squared V2:
The case comes with cutouts for the serial and audio ports. I added the optional USB 2.0 header, like I did with the first system. I didn't add a power switch jack, the time around, since it wasn't needed. The picture also shows a 1TB NVMe SSD. While I only need a small fraction of that capacity, I wanted to use a fast drive to keep boot times as fast as possible.
Mounting:
Unlike my first car (Buick Lesabre), my Buick Lucerne doesn't have enough room for a long drink holder. Because of that, I mounted the computer under the front passenger-side seat. The Up Squared V2's case has two mounting holes on the bottom. To accomodate them, I cut out two pieces of 1/8" ABS plastic. Then I attached one piece to the computer case, using screws, used silicone to glue the other piece to the floor, then bolted the two pieces of ABS together.
In this picture, the front passenger seat is unbolted and pushed back. The mounts,
from top-to-bottom are for the power supply, the relay, and the computer.
This is what it looks like with the power supply, relay, and computer mounted.
The computer just short enough, in height, that the seat rail doesn't push down on it.
This is what it looks like with the carpet back in place.
LCD:
This picture shows my new Matrix Orbital LK204-25-USB-E LCD and a Yverinc Labs LCD case that I purchased off of eBay. While the case wasn't an exact match, it was the closest match that I could find.
I started by mounting the LCD to the front of the case.
Next, I cut openings for the various connectors. Normally, I'd try to hide all of the connectors that I'm not
using, but I didn't have sufficient depth to do so.
I fabricated a mounting bracket out of ABS plasic. I used a heat gun to heat the plastic then bent the
plastic to fit the shape of the center hump.
Next, I added a bend to the plastic, drilled mounting holes, and painted everything to match the color of the
car's interior. The picture also shows a small gap between the front and back of the LCD case. There just
wasn't sufficent depth to be able to push the two halves together all the way.
This is what the LCD looks like after mounting it. The color match is actually better than the picture makes it
look. The difference is mainly due to the lighting and angle that the LCD case sits at. The wiring was pretty
much the same as with the first computer, just with a different physical layout.
